Your team was helpful as well as knowledgeable about Rack-it products. I have had a few Rack-it racks and I look forward to many dutiful years of service with this one.

New Universal Headache Racks

We introduced our new line of universal headache racks back in July, but I thought this article was worth reposting in case some of you forgot about them.

Yep, that's right, it's not only the best Universal Headboard system on the planet, solar system and galaxy; it's the best in the entire Universe (so we say). Built on the same design platform as our fully-welded / make and model specific headache racks, these new Series 5000 and 6000 Universal Headboards are designed to fit multiple vehicles.

The adjustment is found via a 3 inch slotted channel which we've welded onto the angle iron mounting foot. This allows fitment onto multiple vehicle applications by stocking just one part! Finished with a textured black powder coat.

Our newest accessory product is designed for landscapers looking to transport their trimmer tools efficiently to the jobsite. These racks are constructed of aluminum and feature a built in clamp system that attaches the rack to the trucks bed rail. Heavy duty rubber straps secure the trimmer into place and a sliding rod design allows for any padlock to be used to secure your investment safely. These units come stock with a black or silver powder coat finish and include all the installation hardware to get up and running right out of the box.

"Show Us Your Rack-it" Results

The fellas at Trucksmart are at it again. Check out this cool custom headache rack we built for John and Andy over at the Rocklin, CA store. Their customer, Mike Patten from MJP Productions, requested a custom application for his outdoor media company's rig and we were up to the challenge.

As you can see we used the base design of our 5000 series headache rack, but added a few options per the customer's request. We welded in an extra cross member that worked to sandwich the dual port hitch receiver, allowing the installation and quick release of two cargo baskets that Mike uses to store his film equipment and field gear. We also built a custom overhang out of ¾" pipe and welded on 4 light tabs to receive some really trick Hella brand lights.

To round off this build we beefed up the support of the rack by eliminating our standard gussets and welding in ¾" pipe braces for the legs and the overhang. John, Andy and most of all; Mike were really pleased with the build. We love working with our dealers on custom jobs like this and creating new solutions for our Rack-it users.

Keep up the good work Trucksmart ... and if any of you are outdoors enthusiasts and are looking for media production of your adventures.

SEMA Show 2011 Notes by Gary Kank

Robert Mutzig, Operations Manager, and I had a chance to get down to Las Vegas a couple weeks back for the 2011 SEMA Show. In years past we have exhibited at this world renowned event, but this year we were down to take in the show as onlookers. The show drew more than 60,000 domestic and international buyers to the 4-day event. We saw the many interesting things on display that peaked our interest and got our wheels turning. One product in particular that we checked out was the Cap-Pack. This unique, elevated storage system is designed to work in conjunction with your camper shell. It provides easy access to your tools and equipment while still allowing use of most of your bed space.

Cap-Pack

We met with Jake Izydorek, President of Cap-Pack, and discussed the possibility of incorporating the idea on our 1000 Series Truck Racks. Jake was familiar with the Rack-it brand and was interested in exploring this retrofit concept with us. I'm not too sure where this will lead, but we love going down to SEMA for situations like these. Not only do you get to see tons of concepts, custom and new model vehicles, but you also get a chance to brainstorm with fellow manufacturers and get the creative juices flowing. We were also able to meet with many Rack-it dealers while walking the aisles of the show. Great to see so many of you down in Las Vegas.

November 2011 "Rack-t-eer" of the Month

Jorge Garcia - Thank you for 15 years of service

When we first started building racks back in 1986 we had a handful of models we produced. Today there are hundreds of make / model specific part numbers available to our customers and Jorge Garcia is charge of figuring out how all those different shape and sized racks get stacked on our delivery trucks efficiently and safely.

Jorge came to us 15 years ago and has been a tremendous asset to our team. He started his journey at Rack-it working out in the yard helping to get loads tied down. He also helped out in the prep department, cleaning racks before they went to paint. Wanting to learn more, he soon began to practice stacking racks in our "boneyard" to get a sense of how different models nested with one another. Jorge proved to be a quick study and for years now (along with his right hand man, Calvin) he's been our go to guy in the Transportation department.

Jorge remembers the crazy times a few years back when he and his team were building 5-6 loads a day nearly 5 days a week. "That was really fun, we knew what we had to do and we jumped on it and made it happen, "he said. Even though the pace isn't currently quite that busy, Jorge still plays a vital role in managing our yard inventory and building loads week in and week out. He lives with his wife Isabel and their two children, Andrew (16) and Ulises (11) in Placerville, CA.
